INTRODUCTION
In 2014, several people came to a meeting to discuss their concern over the ever-growing addiction problem in Union County, Oregon. As they shared their heart and passion for the hurting citizens of their community, they began to see mutual interests come together. Over many years, each on their own had been significantly involved with addiction and the effects of addiction in multiple ways. This meeting lead to more meetings, and eventually the formation of Board of Directors for Olive Branch Ministry. The Olive Branch program contains 3 major components. Our primary focus is on developing consistent Christian character, in which our students receive 20-30 hours per week of Biblically based instruction and given opportunity to learn and apply these principles on a daily basis. The second component is developing a strong work ethic. Our students work on campus to update and remodel the existing buildings and homes, providing opportunities to develop or enhance vocational skills, they are also hired by individuals in the community where they gain work ethic and work experience. We have future plans to work with local businesses and programs to integrate hands on skills as well as developing business management and accountability skills. This will provide an outreach experience for the students as well as creating a much needed consistent revenue for the program. The third component is to provide residence for the students and staff, this includes dorm rooms for up to 8 first year students and live in staff. In addition it requires a commercial kitchen to provide 3 meals daily (approximately 20,000 meals per year), a dining room and laundry facilities. Offices are also a necessity to coordinate and operate this 24-7 ministry.
